School and work
Use AI at school or work, the right way
Many schools and offices block chat websites in the browser. Somnus is a desktop app, not a website, and it brings Claude, GPT, Gemini and 50+ models into one window. This guide covers setup and what to check first.
Check the rules first
Your school or employer sets the rules for its devices and network. Somnus does not bypass filters, proxies or monitoring, and you should not use it to. If AI tools are not allowed, ask your teacher or IT team. Many approve a specific app once they know what it is.
- Ask whether AI tools are allowed for your work
- Ask whether installing apps on the device is allowed
- Use your own device and network if the shared ones are off limits
Why a desktop app helps
A desktop app is easy for an IT team to review and approve. Somnus also keeps your chats and memory on your computer, works with your files, and shows every step it takes.
Set it up
Setup takes a couple of minutes.
- Download Somnus for Windows (installer) or Linux (AppImage, .deb or .rpm).
- Open the app and sign in or create an account.
- Redeem a promo code if you have one, then type your first task.
Questions
Will Somnus get around my school's web filter?
No, and it is not designed to. Follow your school or workplace rules, and ask your IT team if you are unsure.
Where are my chats stored?
Chats and memory are stored on your computer.
Does it work offline?
No. Models run in the cloud, so you need an internet connection.
